Water Exposed

When I was exposed to fractracter.org, plain and simple I had no idea what it was let alone anything about fracturing. Later I began to find out this website is design to share the people’s voice regarding gas drilling. One of the things that bothered me the most was about chemicals such as gas exposed in water. It troubled me just because this is in people’s drinking water and the other time I have heard about water not looking so clean is overseas.

I found an article on fractoracter.org that addresses hydraulic fracturing. “The scope of the proposed research includes the full lifespan of water in HF, from acquisition of the water, through the mixing of chemicals and actual fracturing, to the post-fracturing stage, including the management of flowback and produced water and its ultimate treatment and disposal.” It also states that in the year of 2010 a report showed of the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriation Conference Committee identified the need for a focused study on the relationship between hydraulic fracturing and drinking water resources. The goals of the technical workshop are to identify research related to these issues and also to provide opportunities for experts.

 I tried finding a youtube clip on President Obama or Governer Tom Corbett addressing fracking, but I only find ones saying “Obama, don’t pay gas” and so forth. I wish I found at least one addressing these issues but that doesn’t always happen. But when Hydraulic Fracturing is affecting the people something needs to be done or someone needs to address these issues.
 
Like Noam Chomsky says about mainstream media. The media plays a huge affect on us, and they set news to what we should see or think about this issue. Shouldn't we have a more personal view point, our own opinion, and shouldn't we know all the facts? Ultimately Chomsky states they eliminate the critically discussion.

Here is a video that I found that shows water on fire. Water on fire is due to hydraulic fracturing.

Overwhelmed with News

First off all I have to say is wow. I never realized how much news is in a half hour. Trying to keep track of all the news plus commercials is a lot to handle. No wonder why society is very influence by TV, from all the information that is thrown out to the audience.

Breaking news: Police Officer was shot and killed in News Kensington, PA

The police officer’s name was not released yet due to the the family has not been notify. But WTAE believes it was Officer Derek Kotecki who was shot and killed. The suspect is Charles Post who shot himself after the incident.  Derek was shot and killed at 7:00p.m. near Dairy Queen.

(11:30p.m.) The TV actually went black.

I took this as too much news to handle. As you can see from above there was a lot to write everything down that included four pages of writing down some useless non-sense. To me this news that’s thrown at us is way too much for just 30 minutes.
If I was an alien I seriously wouldn’t be able to comprehend this much information all at once. My head would probably explode.
Mostly all these commercials are set towards older adults such as Highmark and Buicks and also Ringling Bros. Circus is for the families that have younger children.  This particular commercials are shown during this time because of the simple fact of who is really watching late news show at 11:00 p.m.? The answer is very simple it is the adult crowd.
All the news that was shown on Wednesday Night was indeed a lot to handle and it pretty tells you to stay away from New Kensington along with Homewood. The only good thing shown was sports related which was on the happier side but other than that it was just very negative. But it everything was happy and pleasant in this world we live in, would there actually be so called "news"?

Disney now and then

Dear Walt Disney,

Sleeping Beauty as your know it is from the year of 1959. Sleeping Beauty was my all time favorite movie when growing up. This movie was my favorite because of the fairy-tale as they live happily ever after. I am 22 years old now and as I begin to watch this movie I have a different opinion.  At the end of this movie the final scene Princess Aurora is being rescued by Prince Philip. Because of a curse was put on Princess Aurora where only a prince could break with help of three fairy god mothers. The Prince had to go through some type of battle in order to rescue the Princess. There are multiple movies with a very similar plot, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and so on. 
These movies are very popular to show to children because of the well-known factors. However; doesn’t this teach girls at a very young age of being dependent on a man? That in order to survive from a problem or situation a man must come to the rescue in order to save the woman from this. Shouldn’t girls be taught to be more independent and think for their selves? Perhaps if this was the message more and more women would be become more independent instead of trying to rely on a man. In other words if women are independent, they still can live happily ever after ending.
But in the year 2007, the movie Enchanted, at the very end the character, Nancy Tremaine who was independent and worked with a fashion company, she did find her Prince who was Prince Edward not Robert Phillip who was played by Patrick Dempsey. By the end of the night of the ball, Nancy realized that Edward is the right man for her and they leave New York together for Andalasia to be married. However; this is not the main plot of the story, this particular scenario is in the background and still is more focused on Giselle the person who is in distress and waiting to be rescued by Robert Phillip. This movie has the impressions of Sleeping Beauty along with many other Disney movies.  

The public eye.

Images of people are seen all over and are viewed in the public eye. There are billboards, TV programs along with commercials promoting new clothing lines or products, and of coarse magazines. Very often celebrities are criticized for the way they look. Many celebrities often become anorexic, example is Nicole Richie.

So much pressure is being put onto teenager girls. When these girls see these ads they begin to wish they could have the same look, whether it’s their hair, style of clothing, or the shape of their “perfect” body.  This may even lead to suicides because it affects their self-esteem. The reason is many teenagers compare their selves to these images that are all over the world. However; in Killing Us Softly 4, Jean Kilbournes explains about behind the sense of putting together an image of a person. Sometimes there is often four images put together to form one. Another thing that was shown in this video was the popular Photoshop that was used for many touch ups such as to fix their face or to form the perfect body.

As seen in this youtube clip, about State Farm an insurance company, this is a perfect example of the perfect bodies for men and women that are always seen on TV and as a viewer you may not even realize this.
